Our Champion Gym Manager,
Chris Young
The gym manager here at Pennyhill Park is a
larger than life character with a real passion for fitness,
nutrition and general well-being. Indeed in his own words he
explains what his life statement is…
“...to help, encourage and educate people towards a happier,
healthier life through strength and fitness. This is my passion,
it’s what I do, and it’s what I’ve been fortunate enough to do at
Pennyhill Park since early 2004.”
A Champion!
Since the age of 10, when I remember seeing
the great Soviet Lifter Alexeyev win Gold in the 1976 Olympics I
have been fascinated by strength and power; unfortunately I was an
overweight kid at school. Because of this I had to work hard to
achieve and in 2009 I achieved what that slow, fat kid wouldn’t
have believed possible when I won the following British and World
titles.
- British Single Lift: Squat – 1st Overall, 1st in Age
Category
- World Single Lift: Squat – 3rd Overall, 1st in Age
Category
- British Powerlifting – 1st in Age Category
- World Powerlifting – 1st in Age Category
- British Record Holder: Squat M1 (Age Category) 225kg
What next for Chris?
After having shoulder surgery in January 2010
I am now training hard for 2011’s competition schedule; I’ll be
dropping down a weight class (110kg) and I don’t know if I’ll be
adding to my titles and records, but if I don’t it won’t be because
I didn’t work hard enough!
I’m also looking forward to running our Boot
Camp here in September – I get a real buzz from helping people
achieve their fitness goals.

Happy in life, happy in work...
I am very lucky that my professional life and
personal life are so entwined; although I realise that very few
would want to have a bulky physique like me. The skills and systems
that I use to be as strong as possible can be modified so that they
are more inline with the physique goals which most of the visitors
to our gym have.
I will continue to look for better ways to get
these results; I am committed to my life statement!
Personal Training at The Spa
Chris and his gym team all offer a Personal Training Service for
members and guests of the hotel. After a careful consultation, they
will clearly ascertain your fitness goals and devise a training
session that perfectly matches your objectives! You may want to
lose weight, pick up some technique tips, improve strength or your
cardiovascular levels or even a combination of all of these -
anything is possible!
